Lips are the central feature of the face. They are also vulnerable due to the thin overlying skin and show signs of aging earlier than other areas of our face. Much like the rest of the face, loss of collagen in our lips leads to unwanted changes. Lifestyle factors such as sun damage, smoking or certain medications all can accelerate age-related lip changes.
With the inevitable aging process, the following features are often noticed:
- loss of lip volume
- blurring of the lip border often leading to ‘bleeding lipstick’
- thinning of the lips with the top lip almost disappearing, especially when smiling
- drooping of the lip corner leading to sad mouth appearance
- flattening or loss of the Cupid’s bow (the V-shaped area of our top lip)
- flattening of the philtrum columns (the vertical ridge connecting the bottom of the nose to top lip)
- more prominent lines around the lips (‘smoker’s lines’)
Some people may be born with thin or asymmetrical lips. A person’s ethnicity also plays an important role is their lip shape, lip volume and proportions.
Given there are so many individual factors at play when it comes to lips, it’s important that each and every person’s lips are treated in a well thought out way. Careful consideration needs to be given to the individual’s facial proportions, natural anatomy, age, dynamic movements, profile view and even teeth size! We advocate for natural looking results – your enhanced lips should look like you were genetically blessed with them. But even if you are wanting a more enhanced, more volumised look (and it fits with your overall anatomy), it’s important to maintain a beautiful lip shape – not simply, over-fill the lips.
Lip enhancement is achieved through the use of premium dermal fillers. Thoughtful enhancement and restoration of lips and surrounding lip area using premium dermal fillers is our forte. It’s not simply injecting dermal fillers into lips – it’s very much an artform. Other factors to consider before you undergo lip filler or dermal filler treatment is the training and experience of the cosmetic injector, the type and quality of product used and of course, the consultation and follow-up care offered. All our medical cosmetic treatments are performed by our highly trained Cosmetic Physician, Dr Jane Lucas. We only use premium dermal fillers in all our treatments and we routinely offer complimentary follow-up and care.
